About Shropshire

Whittington, Shropshire

Shropshire is a county in the west Midlands of England. It is a fairly sparsely populated area of land and the Shropshire Hills are considered to be a scene of outstanding natural beauty.

The county headquarters are maintained at Shrewsbury which is not too far from the Welsh border. The River Severn runs right through the county and formed the Ironbridge Gorge. At Ironbridge is the first ever iron bridge structure to have been created in the world. So it is a real symbol to the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.

Offa's Dyke Path in the Welsh Marches and Shrewsbury Castle are just two historic sights of interest to consider when visiting Shropshire. It is also interesting to note that Shropshire is within quick access of London, Cardiff and Bristol as well as allowing visitors to experience the tastes of a countryside holiday, a seaside holiday if they care to venture a bit further to Swansea and The Mumbles but also an urban holiday with so many cities in easy reach.

Shropshire's key is its ability to offer such versatility and with so many historic buildings around there is a lot to see and do.
