About Surrey

Godalming in winter, Surrey

The county of Surrey lies in the south east of England and is listed as one of the 'home counties'. The county town is Guildford and it rests just south of the London metropolitan centre. It encapsulates a large part of the London metropolitan commuter belt due to its convenient positioning to the English capital.

The area is covered in amazing woodland with Surrey Hills and North Downs giving the county a very rural feel which contrasts the buzzing urban life of the near by city of London. There is a rich Tudor and Palladian history in Surrey with numerous properties and gardens to parade this past.

There are beautiful market towns and magical medieval castles all over the county with Wisley Garden being the home of the Royal Horticultural Society. Witley Common and Thursley Common are vast areas run by the National Trust and Ministry of Defence. The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew are worth a visit in anyone's books.

The county also possesses a strong sporting culture with The Oval cricket ground hosting first class cricket, Epsom racecourse holding horse racing meets plus there is a lot of football clubs in the area playing competitive football.
