About Wiltshire

Wiltshire is a county in the west of England. It is a largely rural area of land with rolling chalk countryside. The county town is Trowbridge. Salisbury Plain is home to the ancient ruins of Stonehenge which is a real global attraction and has millions of visitors every year. Salisbury Plain is also the main area of training for the British Army with its vast down lands and valleys.

The county is packed with delightful walking and cycling routes that pass through the vast array of market towns and quaint villages that decorate the county. The city of Salisbury is famous for its remarkable cathedral whilst other famous landmarks include Longleat Safari Park and its accompanying house near Warminster.

The National Trust also has a property at Stourhead. Banbury Castle, Bowood House and King Alfred's Tower are also fine architectural buildings that attract tourists. The urban relief comes from Swindon where shopping, restaurants, pubs and other entertainment can be found.

The county is within close proximity to both the centre of London and the capital city of Wales, Cardiff making it a convenient base to explore many areas of Britain.
