County Antrim

County Antrim is based in the north east area of Northern Ireland. It is named after the county town of Antrim. It lies within the Ulster province of the country. Presbyterian is the main religious following within the county closely followed by Catholicism and the Church of Ireland.

The county can brag about holding the main airport in Northern Ireland, Belfast International Airport. This means County Antrim is Northern Ireland's portal to the rest of the world. The population of County Antrim is 616,384 with the city of Belfast falling into the county.

Large towns in County Antrim include Ballymena, Carrickfergus and Larne. The county is renowned for the world heritage site of Giants Causeway and is decorated by historic castles and picturesque glens. The castles of Dunluce and Olderfleet are examples of the rich scenic views that Northern Ireland is blessed with.

The shipyard in Belfast is famous for where the Titanic was built in 1912 before it set sail on its fateful maiden voyage. County Antrim also has a lively sporting culture with a host of Gaelic games taking place as well as the county having some fantastic sporting teams including Ulster RFC, Ballymena Football Club and Antrim have a commendable history in the hurling.

With 55 acres to its name, the Belfast Zoo is home to over 1,200 animals and 140 species, including two Toco toucans which is a bit of a rarity since worldwide only 220 Toco toucans are living in zoos.

2. Patterson's Spade Mill - Templepatrick, Ballyclare, County Antrim, BT39 0AP

Alive with the sounds of history, this is the place to see how spades are made. Visitors can witness this water-driven mill first hand and marvel at its operation.

3. Barry's Amusements Ltd - Portrush, County Antrim, BT56 8DX

For thrills that delight throughout, Barry's is the largest amusement park in Ireland, for 70 years, they've provided indoor and outdoor entertainment for adults and kids alike.
