About Argyllshire

Connel Bridge Argyllshire

Argyllshire is a beautiful section of Scotland encompassing both the Western mainland of Scotland and many of the Western Isles, the Hebrides. Although it is a nature lover's paradise, it does not have any rivers that are navigable. It features several swift mountain streams, namely the Orchy and the Awe. Famed for its lochs that cut deeply into the coast from the sea, among them are Loch Long, Loch Striven, Loch Riddon, and Loch Fyne. It also includes a great number of inland lakes, such as Lochs Shiel, Lydoch, Eck, Avich, and Awe.

With several significant islands, Argyllshire features Mull, Jurs, Islay, Colonsay, Tyree, Lismore, Luing, Coll, Kerrera, and Gigha. Among the highest mountains in all of Scotland are located here, making it a rugged shire. The tallest of these is Ben Lui at 3,708 feet.

The county similarly features numerous beautiful glens. Glen Etive, Glen Croe, and Glen Aray are among these. Argyllshire also boasts a number of lovely waterfalls in some of these glens, such as those at Cruachan, as well as the rapids like Connel. These are more stunning when the rivers are swollen with flood waters.

Argyllshire remains the domain of any outdoors lover. The rivers and lochs boast many trout and salmon for fishermen. The Western Isles are spectacular and offer countless hours of happiness for a yacht owner. Hunters love the grouse moors and deer forests, which are as good as any in all of Scotland.
