About Dumfriesshire

Dumfriesshire is located in the south of Scotland and is predominantly rural. Dumfries on the River Nith is the former county town and a great base for exploring the surrounding area with lochs and castles and hill walks nearby. This was the final resting place of Robert Burns, Scotland's Poet, and there are several museums and sites dedicated to his life. Gretna Green historically the first village in Scotland and famous for runaway marriages at the Blacksmith's shop which is now a visitor attraction.
