Wheal Tor is a freehold licensed premises and is the highest inn in Cornwall nestling 1000ft high atop Caradon Hill a truly spectacular position with some of the best views in Cornwall. This is probably the highest Bed and Breakfast in Cornwall and absolutely the friendliest. Set in a secluded pine copse and 212 acres of gardens on the edge of Bodmin Moor the premises was once home to Captain Seccombe who managed the prosperous East Caradon copper mine and indeed the original window from which the miners where paid is still in existence. After the mining boom Wheal Tor became East Caradon Farm then later a care home until its eventual guise as a pub and hotel in the early 1970s. Wheal Tor is reached from the B3254 road between Liskeard and Upton Cross the entrance is just opposite the turn off for the village of Pensilva - turn onto the track by the Wheal Tor signs and drive up the unmade road for approx 500m we are located in the trees on the hill. We are approx 1000ft above sea level with magnificent views. |
