Description
Madam Butterfly is ideal for short breaks on the Basingstoke Canal, or for longer cruises down through the 29 locks to the River Wey and possibly on to the River Thames during a 2 week holiday cruise. Normal bookings are for one week or more, but a limited number of 4 day cruises may be available on request. There is ample storage, a gas cooker, refrigerator, accessible shower and toilet, central heating and a dining area. Kitchen equipment, china, cutlery and glasses are provided, as is bed linen. Wheelchair access to the boat is via a removable gang plank onto the rear deck. The front and aft decks have safety rails and are large enough for a wheelchair when cruising. Hydraulic lifts fore and aft give ready wheelchair access to the cabin and front deck. The boat is equipped with a dismountable, manual, hydraulic hoist with hoist mounting points in the aft cabin for the hospital bed and in the shower area. Madam Butterfly sleeps up to 7 people (5 singles and 1 double). When under way there must always be 2 able-bodied people acting as crew in addition to carers. The maximum number on board at any time is 12. Pets other than assistance dogs only by special arrangement in advance.

Other Facilities: Dawn is a self-drive day boat offering covered accommodation for up to 6 wheelchairs and their carers (12 people maximum) with central heating, a gas hob, electro-hydraulic lift to carry wheelchairs from deck to saloon and a flushing toilet. Hiring charge is £80 for 4 hours plus £12.50 for each additional hour or part of hour thereafter.

Local Area Description: The Basingstoke Canal is one of Britain's most beautiful, passing through outstanding scenery in North Hampshire and Surrey. The canal is a SSSI nature reserve, with an abundance of wildlife. It is a relatively quiet canal, so ideal for novices.
Local Attactions: Odiham is within easy reach of Basingstoke which has many attractions for visitors. Also nearby is the market town of Alton. Local attractions include the Watercress Line Steam Railway and Jane Austen's House Museum in the nearby village of Chawton.
Local Pubs and Restaurants: There are several pubs and restaurants in the village of Odiham and many more along the route of the canal.
