Customer Rating/Reviews

Lovely place to have a break, the houseboat was really well appointed and the town of Beccles was within walking distance and delightful. We had brilliant weather which always enhances a holiday but we did not have to go very far for great outings - Southwold, Great Yarmouth, Bungay etc - the use of the rowboat gave us fun too. A very enjoyable week well recommended. Author: Mrs N, Herne Bay, Kent - Date Submitted: 06/2011

Excellent boatyard and staff, without fail you're always made to feel very welcome. Excellent houseboat with one of the best views on the Broads. Despite unseasonal flooding causing us to have to paddle backwards and foreward to the boat it was still worth it! Ideal base for touring Suffolk too. We stayed for a week in August on the Lucky Venture Houseboat at Hipperson's boatyard near Beccles which is a lovely Suffolk market town. The Houseboat was very roomy and very clean and the staff were very helpful. The row boat was a great hit with my two daughters and we hired a motor launch from Hippersons for a few hours, which gave us chance to cruise down river and see all the lovely wildlife. A very peaceful holiday and a great location within easy reach to Great Yarmouth and other attractions. I would definitely recommend this to others. Beccles was a beautiful town and an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding area. All the people we encountered were extremely friendly and helpful. All in all, a very calm and relaxing experience. Would highly recommend the Wine Vaults for a wonderful evening meal in a warm and inviting environment. We have just returned home after our fourth annual stay on 'Lucky Venture', and needless to say we love it and we recommend it! The boat is clean and tidy, and is an ideal introduction for those not having taken a holiday afloat before. It is also very stable, so put aside any thoughts of plates, pots and pans crashing to the floor as you bounce about on the waves - it just doesn't happen! The nights are very peaceful too and you will sleep like a log! Gillingham Dam is just a short distance from Beccles, and on a nice day it is a very pleasant walk to make into town. In town there are several eating places which can cater for most tastes - English, Italian, Chinese and Indian, pub meals and good old fish and chips. The whole area is very clean and scenic, but if you fancy something a little further afield, a trip upriver in a rented boat, or a drive or bus ride into Norwich or Great Yarmouth could be just the thing. There are also lots of suggestions for days out at the tourist information centre midway between Gillingham and Beccles, and is a nice halfway stopping off point for a cup of tea in the adjoining cafe. This time around, for example, we visited Banham Zoo just South West of Norwich, and the Highway Garden Centre, which is in the same area.Having been four times, we are getting to know the area very well. That said, we haven't had enough yet and are thinking about next year already! Author: Mr W, GRAVESEND, Kent - Date Submitted: 05/2010

Very peaceful and enjoyable holiday watching boats go past and the staff were very helpful. Author: Mrs D, CRAWLEY, West Sussex - Date Submitted: 05/2010

This is a really pleasurable way to enjoy a river holiday , weather and scenery of the area without the hassle of mooring. however the fun of cruising the rivers gives a real sense of adventure as the area is so diverse, from the peaceful country walks to the moorings in the centre of Norwich where the shopping is brilliant. There are the seaside resorts of Great Yarmouth, where you can moor your cruiser and Lowestoft which is a short bus ride from Oulton Broad. The area has something for everyone as well as some lovely sunshine making it a destination we have been returning to over the last twenty years.
