Cottage Description
Carriage House, in the lovely border town of Coldstream, really is one of the more eye catching and interesting holiday homes that you could stay in. A most sympathetic and tasteful conversion using two coach houses and a four storey central tower, it offers exceptional accommodation for eight people in four bedrooms. Coldstream is set on the banks of the iconic River Tweed, with England's Northumberland on the opposite shore. It is home to the Coldstream Guards, and is the site of Edward I's invasion in 1296. It has in the past been a rival to Gretna Green for runaway marriages! Dating back to the late 1700's the property is choc full of character and tradition, which blends seamlessly with the updating works undertaken during conversion. There are balconies offering courtyard views. Amenities/Accommodation Overview Set on four floors, there are four bedrooms, starting with a ground floor king sized double (sitting area and en suite double shower with basin and WC), two twin bedrooms, one on the first floor and one on the second, and finally a king sized double on the third floor. Feature bathroom with roll top bath, separate double shower, basin and WC. The spacious kitchen has a large dining table and leads upstairs to the main first floor sitting room. There is a second games room/sitting room on the first floor. Both sitting rooms have balconies overlooking the courtyard. The kitchen is fitted with a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave, gas oven/grill and hob. The property also has two TVs, a Playstation 2, CD/cassette/radio, and a large library of books/DVDs. Gas central heating. Inclusive of towels, bed linen, power and fuel, four car off road parking. Shared lawn and small front patio area, large enclosed rear courtyard. Regret no pets and no smoking, two minutes walk to pubs and shops. Local Town Description Sitting on the River Tweed which forms the border with England, it is likely that Coldstream will have witnessed some turbulent cross border times. Things are much quieter now (apart from when rugby internationals take place!) although the events of days gone by have left a plethora of castles and historic buildings and sites to explore. There is a great museum to the Coldstream Guards, whilst the area that you will be visiting was once home to a British Prime Minister, Sir Alec Douglas Home. There is much for wildlife enthusiasts particularly bird watchers, and cross border travelling is rewarding with the Northumberland National Park and Heritage Coastline in one direction and the great Scottish cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh in the other.

Unique property, well kept and presented. Kids loved their 'castle'.

The house was fabulous. Everything was like a first class hotel and we have never had such a well stocked kitchen. This property deserves a five star rating. The owners were so helpful and friendly, as was the cleaner, who happened to originate from our part of the country. We cannot recommend this property highly enough.
