Cottage Description
Situated in the charming little village of Dunbeath, an old crofting and fishing community, this beautiful stone-built terrace cottage is located in an ideal setting for touring the local area. The village was the birthplace of the famous Scottish writer Neil Gunn and has a long and fascinating history. This cottage has been superbly renovated and offers guests comfortable living accommodation. There is a cosy sitting room with a TV and a well-appointed dining area with a kitchen that has a fridge, freezer, microwave and washing machine. There is one double bedroom and one twin bedroom and a separate bathroom with a shower over the bath. Bed linen and towels are provided. The property has an enclosed garden with a seating area on the patio and enjoys views of hills, rivers and the sea. There is also a sand and shingle beach less than one-quarter-of-a-mile away. The local heritage centre has a wealth of archaeological interest and there are good road links to John o' Groats, the Orkney Isles and the North West coast. Nearby there are many golf courses and opportunities for bird watching, pony trekking, climbing and hill walking. Visitors can follow the River Helmsdale inland and go to see the area of Scotland's own gold rush, when people descended on Strath Kildonan in 1869. The clear waters of the Highland lochs and streams are nowadays popular for trout fishing and water sports. The cottage has off street parking available and has full electricity. The nearest shops are just fifty yards away and the closest pub and restaurant just three hundred yards away.
