Cottage Description
Something most unusual, a church-wing conversion set in a lovely corner of the pretty village of Gatehouse of Fleet. Much of the original character has been retained, in particular windows, oak floors and some original pews in the grand entrance hall. Third floor sitting room affords wonderful river views, with three bedrooms sleeping up to seven people in comfort. When the entrepreneur James Murray built his holiday home here in 1765, it gave a kick start to the local economy which became based on cotton mills. It now provides superb walking, fishing and mountain biking with lovely shops, pubs and restaurants. At the property, you also have a lovely riverside garden with private mooring, with possible arrangements to take your own boat. Please ensure that children are supervised at all times by the water. Amenities/Accommodation Overview Spread over three floors, the accommodation offers three bedrooms being a first floor double, a first floor twin with additional pull out stacker bed suitable for a child under twelve, and finally a second floor double with en suite basin, shower and WC. First floor bathroom with bath having shower over, WC and basin. Ground floor WC with basin. Second floor sitting room with views, TV, DVD, collection of games and books. Utility room, hallway, ground floor kitchen/diner seating six, snug, again seating six. Beautiful kitchen area offering dishwasher, washing machine, fridge freezer, microwave, electric cooker. Full gas fired central heating. Inclusive of bed linen, power and fuel, two car off road parking. Cot, barbecue, outdoor furniture, lawned garden and patio, leading directly to the river. Regret no smoking and no pets, two minutes walk to restaurant, pubs and shops. Please note that the property is suitable for a maximum of six people over twelve and one under twelve (including infants). Local Town Description Mixing the Solway Firth with the wonderful Dumfries and Galloway countryside was always likely to be a heady mix and you will have no trouble immersing yourself in this magnificent setting. Five minutes drive from super sandy beaches, there is also a loch with the opportunity to try some river fishing. There is a visitor centre housed in a former bobbin mill - Mill on the Fleet. This charts the history of cotton milling in the area and is a popular attraction. The village now has a full range of amenities including post offices, a number of shops, and pubs serving super food.
