Cottage Description

Gelston village is a quiet backwater, the right place to relax amidst the green pastures and woodlands of rustic Galloway. The area is loved by birdwatchers and walkers, fishermen and golfer. There are a number of superb local golden beaches within a short drive if you want to discover Scotland's coast. Boat hire, windsurfing, sailing and water sports are all available on Loch Ken if you want to get up and about. If you prefer a more chilled out break then close by you will find Threave Gardens are well worthy of a visit and bikes can be hired to travel up and down the scenic country lanes. 2.5 miles away you will find shops, pubs and hotels in Castle Douglas. On a very tranquil country road, this serene whitewashed cottage provides spacious living for a big family party or a bunch of friends. An idyllic feature is the shallow mill stream and waterfall flowing down to the Gelston burn behind the property. This is a popular area with children but the area right around the house is gated for the safety of toddlers. Outdoor garden furniture and a barbecue are provided for the enclosed private patio area with an ornamental pool. Guests are encouraged to use the owner's well-maintained garden. The owners live in a slightly smaller property behind the cottage. The cottage ca be traced as far back as 1706 and has been extended before in the past. It is appealingly decorated with authentic, very cosy country cottage furnishings, delicately considerate finishing touches and a very welcoming ambience.

All rooms are on ground level and may suit some less mobile guests (grade 3). There are two double rooms and one twin bedroom all with whb, one further twin bedroom that has an en suite bathroom with a shower over the bath opposite, a cosy lounge with an open fire, pine lined sun lounge with dining table and a lovely view across the burn to the fields, large kitchen with a breakfasting table, utility room and a bathroom with a shower over the corner bath. A travel cot can be made available be arrangement. Cooking is powered by gas hob/electric oven and there is oil fired central heating plus an open fire. There is a fridge, freezer, automatic washing machine, microwave, dishwasher, widescreen television and a video. Bed linen and towels are also supplied.
