Cottage Description
Featuring a rugged coastline with beaches, coves and inlets, Transvaal House offers great out of the way accommodation for up to nine people by way of four bedrooms. Sea views and an open fire. There are two double bedrooms, a room offering adult bunks and a family room with three single beds. Set on the edge of the ancient crofting village of Durness, you will find that there is much to occupy you in the way of outdoor activities including salmon and trout fishing, wildlife spotting, walking and cycling. Well presented and equipped, the simple no-nonsense accommodation offers comfortable, traditional living. You will enjoy your time here, whatever the weather. Amenities/Accommodation Overview Open fire, multi fuel stove in the kitchen/diner, and electric storage heaters. Dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave and electric oven and hob. Books, games, TV with basic satellite, inclusive of bed linen, electricity by way of meter. High chair and cot availability, four car off road parking. Lawned area, one well behaved dog allowed, regret no smoking. Ten minutes walk to the pub and shop. Note: Fuel is not provided for stove and open fire but is available to purchase locally, or can be pre-ordered from the shop before arrival. Local Town Description Famous as the most northerly village on mainland Scotland, Durness has a rich history, mixing Viking invaders and eighth century Christian settlers, as well as evidence of cave dwellings. Unspoilt surroundings of beaches and imposing cliffs, you are also close to Britain's most Northerly golf course. Great bird watching, a highlight of which is the Faraid Head puffin settlement. There is a craft village set on an old RAF base, producing local artwork etc.

This was a really good, really well equipped house in a fantastic location. It was very comfy. There were so many walks and so much to do around Durness that we hardly had to drive anywhere. The beaches are amazing. Smoo Cave was a brilliant afternoon out.

Transvaal House is in a beautiful location. The cottage is fantastic for a family or two. It's really cosy and relaxing and had such a well equipped kitchen. We will be back!
