Cottage Description
Interestingly Hindon's history suggests that it was a planned development rather than a village that simply evolved. Rose Cottage is a pretty Grade II listed cottage, one of six to be found on a private driveway in the heart of the village. Two excellent bedrooms, wood burning stove, conservation area location, what more could you want. Although appearing to be a planned village, Hindon has a fine history probably closely allied to the coaching industry, due to its proximity to the main London to Exeter route over the Downs. It has also boasted a fine market over the years, and in its pomp was described as second only to Warminster in the region. The fine restoration of this cottage has sympathetically preserved its excellent one hundred and fifty year old heritage while carefully introducing more modern amenities required in for today's holiday accommodation. Amenities/Accommodation Overview The two bedrooms are offered as a double and a single, while the ground floor bathroom has a corner bath, shower attachment on the taps, and a basin and WC. The comfortable sitting room has a wood burning stove, stairs to the upper floor bedrooms, dining area, TV, DVD player, DVDs, collection of maps and touring books etc. Lovely fitted kitchen having washer/dryer, fridge/freezer, microwave, and electric cooker. Heating from storage radiators. Inclusive of towels, bed linen, power, fuel and opening supply of logs, two car off road parking. To the front of the property is a small patio and gravel area, outdoor furniture. Regrettably no smoking, one well behaved dog welcome at a charge of £10.00 per week. Five minutes walk to pub and shop. Please note that there are open sided stairs giving access to the first floor from the sitting room. Local Town Description Two former coaching inns provide this pretty village with a choice of lovely places to eat and drink, with fine menus and a selection of real ales. Hindon also has a great local shop and surrounding countryside of great beauty. The wonderful chalkland offers sweeping downlands ideal for outdoor activities such as walking, cycling and riding. Day trippers are spoilt for choice with Shaftesbury, Warminster and Sherborne all towns with a rich history and enormous character. Stonehenge and Longleat rank among the top attractions in the whole of Britain, and are both within easy driving distance. Further afield you can reach the fabulous south Dorset coast, and the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline.

The cottage was in a lovely setting - really quiet and peaceful. Not far to drive to all local amenities and places to visit were a short drive away. Overall we had a lovely holiday and would like to return again.
