Knebworth House in Hertfordshire

1. Knebworth House - Stevenage, Hertfordshire, SG3 6PY - Tel No: 01438 812661

This has been the home of the Lytton family since the late 1400's. Visitors can enjoy the house, the gardens, the trails and the park between March and September every year. Often the park holds festivals, where bands that include "Pink Floyd", "Led Zeppelin" and "Queen" have played. This beautiful home is one of the best-known in the world, due to its appearance in films such as "Batman Begins", "Jayne Eyre" and "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". 

2. Paradise Wildlife Park - Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, EN10 7QA - Tel No: 01992 470490

This interactive zoo has animals that include monkeys, tigers, lions, zebras and wolves. The park is passionate about conservation and houses several unique animals. Visitors can get up close and personal to the animals and are able to pet and feed many of them. The park has several attractions, including Safari Adventure Golf, Tiger Falls, Wonders of the Rainforest, Gold Panning and Angkor Reptile Temple which visitors can wonder through. Keepers are on hand to answer questions. 

3. Welwyn Roman Baths - Welwyn, Hertfordshire , AL6 9FG - Tel No: 01707 271362

These fascinating remnants of Roman architecture demonstrate a piece of life of the Ancient Romans from more than 1,700 years ago. The Roman bath-house has been preserved within a steel vault, and visitors can see how the Romans bathed, in high style. Once, both hot and cold rooms were fully in-tact, but the boilers for the hot rooms have long since burned out. Visitors are welcome anytime but in December.

4. Verulamium Museum - Saint Albans, Hertfordshire, AL3 4SW - Tel No: 01727 751810

This museum features re-created Roman rooms with discovery areas where visitors can touch objects, watch videos and use touch-screen databases. The museum's exhibits show pieces of the Romans' daily lives with fragments of building materials, pottery, metalwork, glassware, mosaics and wallplaster. Statues, coinage, body armor and hairpins are all on display. Visitors can also see the hypocaust, an ancient heating system. Most of the discoveries are from the Roman City of Verulamium and the nearby medieval town of St. Albans. 

5. Willows Farm Village - London Colney, St Albans, Hertfordshire, AL4 0PF - Tel No: 08701 299718

Located in St. Albans, this is a great place for families with children. Everyone can watch sheep shows, learn about the growth of fruits and veggies, race ducks and pan for gold. Play areas with carnival rides, bouncy haystacks and leaping lily pads and a tree house are set up. Kids can also see farm equipment, including tractors, and animals, such as reindeer and wallabies. There are shows scheduled throughout the day and visitors can hold some of the animals.

6. Stanborough Park - Stanborough Road, Welwyn Garden City, AL8 6DQ - Tel No: 01707 276276?

This 126-acre park is near Welwyn Garden City. On the grounds are two lakes with rowing boats and water sports center. Guests can fish for carp, rudd, chub and bronze beam. Exploring the nature reserve can lead to seeing interesting plants and wildlife, including birds and bats. Visitors can pop in the cafe or restaurant that is on the premises. Each year the park holds different events, such as the Kaleidoscope Festival, a Race for Life and Locks Fun Fair.

7. Cedars Park - Cheshunt, Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, EN8 8RS - Tel No: 01992 785555

This park hosts the remains of Theobald's Palace, which was visited by Queen Elizabeth I in 1564. Today, guests can stroll through the ornamental gardens and down the Rose walk. They can also stop by the arboretum. For visitors with pets, there's even a pet's corner. While wandering the grounds, visitors might also enjoy the landscaped water gardens and heritage trail. To rest, stop by the tearooms, open between March and November on Tuesdays through Sundays at 10am to close.

8. Mill Green Museum and Mill - Hatfield, Hertfordshire, AL9 5PD - Tel No: 01707 271362

The Mill Green Museum is housed in the old Miller House, which was built in the 1600's. Local artifacts are on display. An old, water mill, which dates back to 18th century, is located on the grounds, and is still in use. Milling takes place weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays. At the mill's baker, organic wheat is ground and visitors can purchase organic flour there. There is no admission fee and the mill is open Tuesdays through Sundays.
