1. Twinlakes Park - Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, LE14 4SB - Tel No: 01664 567777

Twinlakes Parks is an 80-acre theme park located in the Leicestershire Wolds. The park has something for people of all ages to enjoy, including a permanent ice skating rink. Taking up 125,000 square feet are 10 differently themed playzones. There are several rollercoasters and other rides, water rides and boats, and an animal farm featuring more than 300 animals and birds. Twinlakes also boasts a huge indoor play venture challenge.

2. Great Central Railway - Loughborough, Leicestershire, LE11 1RW - Tel No: 01509 230726

The Great Central Railway is Britain's sole double track, main line rail system. It has been placed 12th on a list of the fifty greatest railway trips in the world. Full-sized steam engines regularly pass each other as they did during the time that steam engines were the major mode of transportation. The train runs weekends, holidays, and every day in the summer between Loughborough and Leicester.

3. Twycross Zoo - Hinckley, Leicestershire, CV9 3PX - Tel No: 01827 880250

This zoo located on the border of Leicestershire is known as the World Primate Centre because it possesses the biggest primate collection in the world. It has exhibits of all four of the great ape species. Besides primates, Twycross Zoo has a Tropical House patterned after a rainforest with a large variety of South American species.This zoo has a wide collection of other animals, including many endangered species like the rarest large cat in the world, the Amur leopard. They also have Asian elephants, Asiatic lions, giraffes, camels, and Patagonian sea lions in their collection.

4. National Space Centre - Leicester, Leicestershire, LE4 5NS - Tel No: 08456 052001

The idea for the National Space Centre was fostered by the University of Leicester and the Leicester City Council. It is located in the centre of the Midlands only two miles from Leicester's city centre. The National Space Centre is the UK's largest attraction that is dedicated to space and its exploration. They feature six galleries that have over 150 interactive exhibits as well as the largest planetarium in Britain. The Space Centre plays host to wide array of events including visits from famous astronauts like Buzz Aldrin.

5. Sence Valley Forest Park - Ibstock, Leicestershire, LE67 6NW - Tel No: 01889 586593

Part of the National Forest of England, Sence Valley Forest Park is north of Ibstock in north west Leicestershire. It sits on top of an area where coal was extracted from the earth using opencast mining. Since then, the area has been forested and lakes have been created. A system of paths runs throughout the Forest Park ideal for walks and providing access to picnic areas and fishing spots.

6. Stapleford Miniature Railway - Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, LE14 2SF - Tel No: 07788 915609

This miniature rail system runs through the grounds of Stapleford House near Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire. The railway was originally built to take visitors to Stapleford House from the car park. It has since been expanded and has two miles of track that cover a scenic route around the grounds. The miniature railway is a one-fifth scale train and runs on 10-1/4 inch track. It is open to the public two weekends a year.

7. John Taylor Bellfoundry Museum - Freehold Street, Loughborough, Leicestershire, LE11 1AR - Tel No: 01509 212241

This museum contains exhibits that explain one of the oldest manufacturing industries, the making of bells. The exhibits at the John Taylor Bellfoundry Museum demonstrate the methods of moulding, casting, tuning and fitting of bells. This old bellfoundry is linked to this industry as far back as the 13th century. The museum also has one room that displays a number of different bells from different foundries and different times. Tours of the museum even include demonstrations of a bell being cast.

8. Bradgate Country Park - Leicester, Leicestershire, LE6 0HE

Bradgate Country Park is Leicestershire's biggest country park and is located in the Charnwood Forest. The Park is a medieval deer park that is home to large numbers of red and fallow deer. Paths meander through the park and offer views of Cropston Reservoir. Inside the Park are the ruins of the home of Lady Jane Grey, one of Henry VIIIs wives who was beheaded after being Queen for only nine days. The house is known as Bradgate House.

9. Wymondham Windmill - nr Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, LE14 2BU - Tel No: 01572 787304

This windmill was built in 1814 out of ironstone, topped with brick, and outfitted with six sails. It is known as a Six Arm Lincolnshire Cross. There are only four of these six-sailed windmills in England. Wymondham Windmill was used to grind corn until 1952. Today the windmill is a family tourist attraction offering tours and beautiful views of the countryside and village of Wymondham as well as a tearoom and craft shops.
