Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire is an English county in the east Midlands are of the country. The region is pretty much famous for the legend of Robin Hood. Believed to be based in Sherwood Forest within the boundaries of the county town of Nottingham itself, the story of Robin Hood who used to rob from the rich and give to the poor is one that has been passed down through generations. Nottingham Castle is also a very aged structure that tells its own story of its past.

The Sherwood Forest Country Park is home to the Major Oak where Robin Hood is thought to have set up camp whilst the county is also blessed with the Rufford Country Park and Rushcliffe Country Park.

Nottingham is the location of the world famous Nottingham Forest Football Club where the notorious manager Brian Clough guided them to two successive European titles. It is also the home of the first ever football league club, Notts County. Nottingham is also famed for its famous hosiery and lace industrial past. A number of museums lay testament to this past. The city of caves is also an intriguing experience to have if visiting the city.

Other towns and cities such as Leicester, Derby and Sheffield are all within a short driving distance so the option to venture further out is at your disposal.

Though the original 11th century castle has been destroyed, the site contains a medieval gatehouse, caves, dungeons and a 17th century royal palace.

2. Sundown Adventureland - Rampton, near Retford, Nottinghamshire, DN22 0HX

The family oriented location represents the ultimate in children's playgrounds. The park is designed with numerous popular specialty themes and dozens of areas to explore.

3. The City Of Caves - Broadmarsh Shopping Centre, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, NG1 7LS

Researchers believe the manmade underground system was constructed during the dark ages of the Anglo/Saxon period. Citizens used the network of caves until after WWII.
