A remarkable home in Rutland, Lyddington Bede House was a piece of the original Bishops of Lincoln palace. It is located in the village of Lyddington across from the church and is operated by English Heritage. In 1600, the son of the chief minister to Queen Elizabeth, Sir Thomas Cecil, took possession of the property. It was then that the house was changed into a charity house for men and women. Visitors are able to tour the house and view the rooms as well as the Great Chamber, which had previously been used by the bishops.
2. Rutland Railway Museum - Cottesmore, Rutland, LE15 7BX - Tel No: 01572 813203
Located on the mineral line of the Midland Railway on approximately 7 years, the Rutland Railway Museum conserves the memory of the ironstone quarrying which occurred in the area in the mid 20th century. The museum holds an impressive collection of industrial locomotives, mineral wagons, as well as other machines and equipment that were used in the quarries.
The Norman castle, of which only the great hall still stands, was built between the years 1180 and 1190. The structure is adorned with Romanesque detailing and is a gorgeous example of English architecture. Still in use today, Oakham Castle was used as an Assize court until the year 1970. In the present day, the edifice is sometimes utilized as a Crown or Coronor's Court as well as for the occasional weddings.

Visitors to the museum can also enjoy the beauty of the outdoors in the gardens, which have won a Best New Permanent Landscape Award in 2008. The last display, the Poultry Hall, holds a New Drop gallows as well as additional farming displays.
