About Warwickshire

Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire

Warwickshire is a county in the west Midlands region of England and is as Shakespeare Country due to his birthplace, Stratford Upon Avon, being located within the county boundaries.

Despite being the largest town in the region, Nuneaton is not the county town. This accolade goes to Warwick. The area that glorifies Shakespeare's work is dotted with museums and tours of the places where the 'greatest English writer of all time' spent his days. Warwick Castle is also one of the most well kept medieval castles in the country. Its being can be traced back to the days of William the Conqueror and another medieval castle, Kenilworth, adds to the county's prosperous medieval history.

Transport is relatively easy with Warwickshire being so central within the country of England. The M40 serves Leamington Spa, Warwick and Stratford whilst running through the county from London to Birmingham. The M6 links the county with the nation-long M1 and the rail links connect the county's towns and cities to the rest of Britain. Coventry Airport also allows travel to the region by air.

The Belfry Golfcourse is situated within the county and has played host to some major golfing tournaments. The Grand Union Canal also provides fantastic walks and scenery along its banks.
