About Yorkshire

Yorkshire

Yorkshire is the largest county in England. It is situated in the north of England and is a traditional region. It is home to a wealth of vibrant cities such as Leeds, Sheffield, York and Bradford. It almost covers the entire breadth of England and has a large coastline on the eastern board of the country. This provides a fair number of seaside resorts such as Scarborough.

The county is thriving in history from all ages. The Jorvik invasion can be traced to York which proudly shows off its heritage with the Jorvik Viking Centre. There is also evidence of Celtic tribal history, Roman settlements, Norman conquests and, of course, sites of interest that cover the War of the Roses between the House of York and the House of Lancaster.

Yorkshire has some fine examples of architecture on display across the county with Castle Howard and Whitby Abbey being fine structures of design. There are a further number of English heritage sites in the form of homes and cathedrals.

The Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors are National Parks that offer a wide range of outdoor activities for all to enjoy making the county a contrast between the rural relaxation of country life and the buzzing fast paced lifestyle of the city.

Yorkshire is often touted as 'God's Own Country' due to its high amount of attractions, fantastic cities, breath-taking countryside and outstanding views.
