About County Tyrone

County Tyrone

The largest of the six counties in Northern Ireland, County Tyrone covers a vast area of land in the western region of Northern Ireland as it borders the Republic of Ireland and Lough Neagh.

The county town is Omagh which is notorious for the 1998 car bombing by the Real Irish Republican Army. With The Troubles now a part of Northern Ireland's history, the county now has the chance to show the world what it can offer. The Sperrin Mountains give a fantastic opportunity to enjoy spectacular views and the Lough Neagh shore has some amazing sights.

Gortin Glens Forest Park has amazing wildlife and landscape to visit which contrasts the urban buzz of Omagh. Another interesting tourist attraction is the Ulster American Folk Museum which tells the historic story of how the mass emigration of Irish citizens to America took place. A moment in history that effectively changed the face of the world and the museum helps to remember just how important this part of the world was in shaping the world that we live in now.
