Lanarkshire is a south-west Scottish county. Its boundaries generally encompass the Clyde Valley. Descending eventually from its highest reaches in the south, it is known for its gentle sloping toward both of the Clyde River banks.
The shire is administratively divided into three different wards. The Upper Ward contains the southern portion and greater than half of the county. The Middle Ward has the town of Hamilton as its main population center. The Lower Ward covers the north portion of Lanarkshire.
Several high hills are featured in County Lanarkshire. Among them are Cutler Fell at 2,454 feet, Lowther Hill at 2,377 feet, Green Lowther at 2,403 feet, Tinto at 2,335 feet, Rodger Law at 2,257 feet, Ballencleuch Law at 2,267 feet, Dun Law at 2,216 feet, Dungrain Law at 2,186 feet, Comb Law at 2,107 feet, and Shiel Dod at 2,190 feet.
The main rivers in the county prove to be the Clyde River and its head waters and tributaries. No lochs of any significant size exist in this county. The most famed natural landmarks in Lanarkshire undoubtedly prove to be the Falls of Clyde found at Stonebyres, Dundaff, Corra, and Bonnington.
