14Th Century House In Bridgwater

History

Located on the river Parrett, Bridgwater is mentioned in the Domesday Book and its origins date back at least a millennia. Like many other towns in Somerset, Bridgwater developed as a market town. Due to its location, Bridgwater has been the site of many political or military skirmishes throughout English history, dating back to the second baron's war against Henri III.

Also, Bridgwater played an important role in the peasant's revolt of 1381. During the English Civil War, Bridgwater was a stronghold for the Royalist's movement. In addition, Bridgwater was the first town to propose the abolition of slavery within the British Empire and also played a key role as a line of defence against a potential German invasion during WWII.

Today, Bridgwater is still known as a market town but also an ideal place to live as many industries have offices in this town.

Inside the museum there is a pinnacle kiln hat dates back to the 19th century. It is the last of it's kind in Bridgwater and last fired in 1965, when production shut down.
