Cannock

Cannock Chase

Cannock lies within the southern boundary of Staffordshire at the foot of the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which extends as far as Stafford. So Cannock welcomes thousands of passing visitors during the spring and summer with a healthy interest in the local wildlife and landscape. Bring the whole family to Cannock on your next holiday and explore the unspoilt heartland for yourself.

Cannock's history pre-dates the boom of the Industrial Revolution by several centuries. As a matter of fact, Cannock was mentioned in the Domesday Book in the 11th century and was renamed a number of times until the Norman pronunciation prevailed. Interestingly, Cannock remained isolated and undeveloped over the subsequent centuries until the Industrial Revolution. From the mid-19th century onwards, Cannock has continued to grow alongside other towns included in the Cannock Chase conurbation.

Cannock Chase

If you are in search of a holiday destination in one of the last remaining woodlands in Britain, Cannock Chase is for you. Of particular note, the shear variety of local wildlife and trail paths in Cannock Chase attract naturalists and outdoorsman from the whole of Staffordshire and indeed Britain, as well. In fact, the heartland is home to many rare species of flora that are found nowhere else in Britain.

Cannock Chase is particularly attractive as a place to go mountain biking and hiking, too. There are several visitor centres scattered throughout the grounds of the area. So if you have any questions, be sure to stop at one of these information centres for detailed maps of the forests and heartland. Cannock Chase even has activities for the little ones.

Cannock Transportation

You can arrive in Cannock either by rail or by road if you prefer motoring directions. Cannock Railway Station rests on the eastern edge of town centre adjacent to Lichfield Road and operates along the London Midland/Chase Line, which makes travelling to Cannock by train an ideal choice.

Motoring directions to Cannock are easy enough to follow. Just take the M6 Motorway north of Birmingham to the number 11 junction. This junction is also the terminus for the M6 toll way if you plan on using the toll. But either way, keep watch for the A460, which extends north to Cannock proper. As an alternative route, you can take the A34 south via Stafford if you are approaching Cannock from the north.
