Newquay

Newquay Beach

Situated along the scenic north Atlantic coast of Cornwall, Newquay has been a major tourist destination for over a century. Known for it's splendid beaches, exciting nightlife, excellent fishing and boating, and family friendly attractions, Newquay is perfectly situated as the ideal holiday destination.

History

Inhabited since prehistoric times, Newquay was first settled during the late Iron Age when a hill fort and industrial centre was built to take advantage of the area's vast resources. By the 15th century, a small fishing village called Towan Blystra had been established. In 1439, the local burgesses applied for funding to build a new quay to protect the village from winds, thus inspiring the name Newquay. Newquay Parrish was established in 1882 following the 1832 construction of the current harbor. The arrival of passenger trains in 1876 prompted the town's growth and, to this day, Newquay continues to increase in population and expand inland.
