Padstow

Padstow Harbour

Padstow is a historic fishing port named for the Welsh missionary Saint Petroc. There are three churches in Padstow said to have been founded by the saint, including Little Petherick Church, two miles from Padstow. While some of its former fishing fleet remains, Padstow is now a haven for yachts and has a handful of easily navigable harbours.

Padstow's most notable resident is celebrity chef Rick Stein, who owns a popular seafood restaurant (Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant) as well as St. Edmunds House, a popular inn located less than a mile from his restaurant.

As far as holiday destinations go, the town of Padstow is all about fun on the water. Visitors to the area beaches can learn to surf at the Harlyn Surf School or take the Sea Life Safari excursion, a boat trip to explore coastal caves and witness frolicking seals, puffins and pods of dolphins. There is a large number of beaches within the local vicinity, including St George's Well, Harbour Cove, Trevone, Harlyn Bat and Mother Ivys. Across the estauary's other side is Rock Beach, Daymer Bay and Polzeath's Bay.

Not all activites are water-related however. Visitors can also enjoy a morning or afternoon activity of walking, horseback riding or cycling. On foot or cycle, a rich variety of scenic views and natural habitats await, from sandy coastal paths to wooded areas and paths that lead to clifftops with excellent panoramic views. The Tresallyn Horse Riding Stables is a great place to experience fresh air, coastal views and local wildlife, and cater to both beginning and experienced riders. The stables are situated on a 300-acre parcel located minutes from Padstow. Riding lessons and horse or pony rentals are available.

Accommodations in Padstow range from luxury hotels, family friendly B&Bs and inns to self-catering guest houses and campsites.

While the majority of Padstow is accessible on foot, taxis and minibuses are available for hire. A passenger ferry operates year-round between Padstow and Rock via the River Camel. Located just off A389, Padstow is easily accessible by car, bus or train.
