Getting to Torpoint is half the fun as there are three pedestrian and car chain ferries that connect the A374 road, across the Hamoaze waterway, to the rustic and charming town of Torpoint. This chain design was first introduced in 1834 and its original design is the basis for what is used today.
Torpoint has hundreds of miles of beautiful coastline, lush gardens and scenery, parks, art galleries, and a wonderful coastal climate.
History
Torpoint has a rich history extending over hundreds of years. Torpoint is first mentioned in a 1734 print of two men standing by the Hamoaze with the words 'Tarr Point' on a millstone. Torpoint grew more rapidly after its dock yards became a training facility for the Royal Navy. Currently, Torpoint maintains a small town atmosphere with less than 9000 residents as of the last census.
