National Botanic Gardens in Carmarthenshire

These stunning botanical gardens are surprisingly only a few years old, having been created in the new millennium. The amazing range of plants and habitats on offer has made this one of the number one gardens in Wales and is a hugely popular attraction.

2. Carreg Cennen Castle - Llandeilo, SA19 6UA - Tel No: 01558 822291

Despites its ruined state this is one of the most spectacular castles in Wales and dominates the surrounding landscape. This castle is located on a hill top and offers enchanting views out around the miles of tranquil farmland. Archaeological evidence suggests that the prehistoric people may have occupied the site long before the castle was built in the 13th century.

3. Pembrey Country Park - Pembrey, Burry Port, SA16 0EJ - Tel No: 01554 834443

Pembrey Country Park has a lot to offer visitors and combines miles of beautiful Welsh countryside and stunning coastlines. You can enjoy many different trails around the Pembrey Country Park, and there are over 202 hectares of carefully managed parklands.

4. Kidwelly Castle - Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, SA17 4UL - Tel No: 01554 890203

Kidwelly is one of the finest castles in South Wales. It has remained mostly intact over the centuries and is a stunning example of a medieval castle design. This 13th century stone castle was erected on the site of an original 12th century Norman timber castle.

5. Dryslwyn Castle - Nr. Llandeilo (5 miles west)

Dryslwyn Castle is perched on a rocky knoll and you can clearly still the mighty defensive strength of this medieval stronghold. This castle withstood several key attacks during the 12th century but was later torched, and the upstanding walls were demolished.

6. Dolaucothi Gold Mines - Pumsaint, Llanwrda, Carmarthenshire, SA19 8US - Tel No: 01558 650177

The Romans mined gold all over Europe, but this is the only gold mine discovered in Britain. The Dolaucothi Gold Mines is a National Trust property and provides a fascinating glimpse into the local heritage of gold mining in Wales.

7. National Wool Museum - Clyngwyn, Velindre, Llandysul, Carmarthenshire, SA44 5UP - Tel No: 01559 370929

National Wool Museum Wool has traditionally been one of the most prominent industries in Wales. The National Wool Museum celebrates this rich history and is located in the historic former Cambrian Mills. You can find out more about traditional spinning and weaving techniques at this museum and also more about the history of the folk that made their living from wool.
