About Powys

Brecon Beacons Landscape in Powys

Powys is the largest county in Wales covering an area of 5,196km2 and is a fantastic advert for the outstanding scenery Wales has to offer. From the glorious mountain ranges of the Brecon Beacons to the area of Welshpool the views are breath taking. There are numerous exceptional walks to experience such as the Wye Valley Walk, Offa's Dyke Path and the Taff Trail.

The Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons and Radnor Forest present some of the views that Wales has long been associated with. The rolling hills, green grass, clear blue rivers and hazy mountains all perform to their best across the county.

Powys also offers an insight into Welsh history with some magnificent castles to visit such as Montgomery Castle, Tretower Castle and Castell Du. The Llandiloes Museum, Llandrindod Wells Museum and The Museum of Fiction in Llanerfyl add to this experience by providing a chance to become more familiar with how Powys came to be.

It was recently surveyed that Powys was statistically the happiest area within the United Kingdom. It's no surprise with such awesome views and encapsulating scenery on offer. Due to the remarkable countryside there is an ideal opportunity to get involved in outdoor activities with rock climbing, white water rafting and caving at your disposal should you decide to venture into the adrenalin pumping genre.
